The view on the banks of the Danube and the castle district

On December 11th 1987 Budapest was listed by the UNESCO World Heritage Commission on the list of world heritage sites with a view of the Danube bank and the Buda castle district. The Buda Castle district is one of the most romantic parts of the city. It is an original part of the city and one of the most important monumental groups in the country. 800 years have passed since its foundation, but its beauty is still intact today, whether it is earthquake, fire, siege or world war, its magnificent medieval monuments have remained wonderful until today.

The different periods in the history of the Hungarian capital can be well observed in buildings.

The part of the world heritage between the Ponte della Libertà and the Ponte Margherita consists of the banks of the Danube of Buda and Peste; and from some buildings of the Technical University and the Chain Bridge area: the Gellertbad, the Gellertberg with the Freedom Monument and the Citadel, the Castle on the Buda hill with the Royal Palace, the Baroque churches of the City of Water and baths from the Turkish era.

The Parliament, Roosevelt Square, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Grisham Palace are part of the world cultural heritage on the banks of the Danube in Pest.

The name Buda Castle does not simply mean castle or palace. These include the most beautiful viewpoints in the historic center. The visitor has the feeling of being back in time, in a completely different and peaceful world, where the entrance gate of the baroque houses hides the Roman stones, the beautifully carved cavalry seating cabin.

Organic parts of the castle district are the former royal castle, which is still isolated, and the buildings equipped for service.

In the royal palace are the cultural institutes, as the Budapest Historical Museum is responsible for archaeological investigations (southern parts of the section E of the building) Hungarian International Gallery (DCBBA northern section and central parts of the building) According to Széchényi Ferenc called International Library it is located in the section F, which takes care of the city of Krisztina and continues beyond the slope of the castle. The Sándor Palace, which was once the residence of the Prime Minister, is now the seat of the President of the Republic.

Gödöllöllö / Budapest

Gödöllö Castle, the Hungarian Versailles ";, is Sisi's favorite castle. The country's largest baroque castle, located east of Budapest, is the crowning gift of the Hungarians to Francis Joseph and Elizabeth. there - also emotionally - a new home, spending a lot of time here and enjoying a more informal and family atmosphere.

In the chapel of the castle, in 1877 Sisis married Maria Luisa Elisabeth von Wallersee of Augsburg in the presence of the imperial couple Count Larisch, who was later rejected. The palace, the palace park and the riding school still remind us today. The baroque theater of the Gödöllö palace complex is unique in Europe for the originally preserved furnishings. The renovation of the royal property was awarded an international award. In the castle you can see a large ceremonial hall and the royal apartments with the commemorative exhibition of Queen Elizabeth.

A picture of the permanent exhibition recalls a castle hunt attended by Lord Spencer, ancestor of Lady Diana. The idyllic castle garden, which also includes an orangery and a greenhouse of palm trees, surrounds the entire castle. IS'; divided into an upper and a lower park. Old trees, such as Gingko and Mammut, characterize the Oberpark, where there is also a teahouse from 1760.

In the adjacent Elisabeth park, now a nature reserve, the inhabitants of Gödöllöllö erected a monument to Elisabeth, long before their first monument was erected in Vienna. A commemorative plaque in the park shows Elizabeth's favorite place, the pheasant with an old tree-lined avenue.
