The island of Ischia, called the Green Island or of youth, is famous above all for the richness of its thermal springs and for the beauty of its beaches and woods. The volcanic nature of the land of Ischia and the always mild climate, even in winter, make the island fertile. Ischia is characterized by an extreme variety of places and really suggestive panoramas: from the beaches and the marine bays, to the hills cultivated with vines, to the Epomeo mountain surrounded by woods of oaks and acacias. It is the third most populous Italian island, after Sicily and Sardinia and the largest in the Gulf of Naples, although the Isle of Capri is by far the most famous. The island was called by the Latins Pithecusa, a name that tradition derives from the Greek "pithos" (vase), that is the Island of potters. The thermal waters of the island of Ischia are well known and used since ancient times, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological finds found on the site of Pithecusa.
