Cefalu and the surrounding area
Located on the northern coast of the Sicilian island, at one end of the Gulf of Termini Imerese, Cefalù is about 50 km from Palermo on the Palermo-Messina highway. The city is dominated by a 270 m high hill, head-shaped profile that falls to the sea, while on the inner side it opens onto the urban agglomeration, gradually descending on a grassy slope. Cefalù is a small seaside town of just 14,000 inhabited, with a picturesque marina from which you can see the characteristic sea front of the walled city, with arches that cater to the boats. The climate, typically mediterranean, enjoys dry and hot summers, mitigated by ventilation, and mild and moderately rainy winters. Situated in the Madonie Park, Cefalù is very close to its most famous mountain resort (Piano Battle 1600 meters above sea level), Himera Park, Halesa and Fiumara d'Art, by the Nebrodi Park. you can visit west Bagheria with its beautiful villas, Solunto, the capital city of Palermo, Monreale with its beautiful cathedral, to the east of Tindari with its sanctuary and the Greek amphitheater, the Aeolian Islands of Unesco. its medieval medieval center, the cathedral of the Norman king Ruggero II (1131 AD), the medieval wash basin powered by an underground river, the "Mandralisca" museum which preserves the famous painting of the famous sailor Antonello da Messina and numerous archaeological finds , the park of the fort where there are prehistoric remains such as the megalithic building called "Temple of Diana" and finally its numerous churches and palaces witness to a noble past.
